Geriatrics

Our Mission

The Department of Geriatric Medicine has a mandate to educate future health professionals about geriatric medicine, to increase awareness about the field of geriatrics, and to improve the health care of older adults. The department faculty provide patient care at the Geriatric Medicine Clinics at NSU, the Alexander "Sandy" Nininger, Jr., State Veterans' Nursing Home, Avante of Boca Raton, and Covenant Village Care Center. The faculty participates in the education and training of medical students and residents and postdoctoral fellows in both clinical and academic settings, and is also active in the education and training of other students and residents from various disciplines in the Health Professions Division.

Educational Programs

The Geriatric Fellowship:

The Department of Geriatric Medicine at NSU-COM in conjunction with Broward Health Medical Center is proud to offer a one-year geriatric fellowship training program.  The applicant requires successful completion of an osteopathic accredited, family medicine, internal medicine or neurology residency program. This subspecialty-training program, which was established in 2001, is designed to provide geriatric fellows with high-quality educational experience involving clinical and academic exposure to skilled teaching faculty at NSU-COM and Broward Health Medical Center. Specialty training is provided in such areas as interdisciplinary geriatric team assessment, neurology, physical & rehabilitation medicine, gero-psychiatry, as well as end-of-life and palliative care. If you are interested in joining our geriatric fellowship program, fill out our application underneath our links section and email to hady@nova.edu

The GREAT GEC:

Faculty members of the department of Geriatric Medicine are integral members of the newly established and federally funded GREAT Geriatric Education Center at NSU, with Dr. Naushira Pandya serving as its Project Director.
