The department of OPP offers a one year Sports Medicine Fellowship/Subspecialty
Residency that leads to a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in
sports medicine by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
Candidates for this fellowship/subspecialty residency may enter after
completion of an AOA approved residency in Family Medicine, Internal
Medicine, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R),
Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Preventive Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
Certification is granted through the primary certifying board.
This is a dynamic subspecialty residency that provides an outpatient
education in
PM&R, OMM and Orthopedic Surgery. Rotations are also completed
in Pediatrics, the Differently Abled Athlete and Internal Medicine. There
is also time allotted to concentrate on other Sports Medicine related
areas in which a resident would like to focus.
Residents will participate in an active Sports Medicine outpatient
clinic at NSU. They will also provide medical coverage for the NSU NCAA
Division II sports and North Broward High School District sports. They
will provide event coverage for various teams and tournaments throughout
the year. Residents will also have exposure to professional and semi-professional
athletic teams, Special Olympics and mass events.
