Resident Rotation in OMM and Sports Medicine/OMM

Contact person for scheduling a rotation: Andrew Kusienski D.O.

  • Prior to setting up the rotation the resident must:
    • Inform the OPP department of any special requests for anticipated time missed.
    • Inform the OPP department of any devoted clinic time for their primary residency. A resident cannot rotate in the department if their clinic days include a Monday, Wednesday and/or a Friday. The reasoning for this is because those are the main patient care days for the department. Missing 2 of those 3 days in the department would defeat the purpose of rotating in OMM or Sports Medicine/OMM.
    • Also be aware the department only accepts residents for one-month/4 week rotations and does not accept any rotating residents the month of December.
    • Provide the OPP department with the following documentation if a resident is not from an NSU OPTI program:
      • Criminal background check dating back five years.
      • Certificates of HIPPA and OSHA training
      • Evidence of malpractice coverage
      • Proof of up-to-date immunizations
      • Proof of current health insurance
      • Letter of good standing from resident’s Director of Medical Education
  • The resident must contact the department at 954-262-4316 one week prior to the start of the rotation for any special instructions.
  • Business attire with white coat will be expected at all times except those rare instances where instructed.
  • The resident must report to the department clinic on the 1st weekday of their scheduled rotation at 8:45am for orientation. The resident’s schedule will be given at that time. The clinic is located in room 4316 on the third floor of the Ziff Clinic Building of Nova Southeastern University. The address is 3200 S. University Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33328. The clinic telephone number is 954-262-4316.
  • The resident will be expected to be in the department Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Generally those hours will be 9am till 5pm and all residents will be expected to take part in one evening shift per week. There will also be other educational opportunities beyond those times that will be discussed at the start of the rotation.
  • Residents are permitted two days of absence during the OMM rotation. If a resident misses a total of three or more days during the rotation for any reason, the entire rotation may have to be repeated. This Department attendance policy supersedes all other governing policies.

Educational Goals for Residents rotating in OMM:

  • Acquisition of the skills to become competent in diagnosing osteopathic somatic dysfunctions.
  • Acquisition of the ability to apply osteopathic techniques in all major areas of the body.
  • Acquisition of the ability to apply osteopathic principles and manipulative treatment appropriately for the treatment of patients with acute and chronic abnormalities and pathology.

Educational Goals for Residents rotating in Sports Medicine/OMM:

  • Acquisition of the ability to carry out a complete sports preparticipation physical.
  • Acquisition of the ability to become proficient in joint examinations.
  • Acquisition of the ability to be competent in diagnosis and treatment of common sports injuries.
