Internship and Family Practice Residency

 

Westchester General Hospital is a 125-bed general acute care facility equipped with EEG, X-Ray, nuclear medicine, pharmacy, laboratory, heart station and special cardiac procedures, CAT scan, endoscopy unit podiatric services, state-of-the-art surgical suites and newly constructed emergency department and intensive care unit. Additional training resources include Southern Winds Hospital, a 72-bed psychiatric hospital, West Gables Rehabilitation Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital and Westchester Health Center. In addition to the Family Medicine residency, Westchester General Hospital is approved to train 20 third-year and fourth year NSU-COM students.

The hospital offers one of the finest osteopathic medical training programs for Traditional Rotating Internship and Family Practice Residency.  The residents are exposed to a wide range of clinical experiences in both hospital inpatients and ambulatory patients at various clinical sites located throughout Miami.  These ambulatory centers have long established training relationships with the hospital.

APPLICATION PROCESS:  The following must be provided to complete the application process:

  • Complete ERAS Application
  • Graduation from an Osteopathic Medical School
  • Osteopathic College Transcript
  • National Boards Scores (COMLEX Part I & II)
  • Minimum of three letters of recommendations from physicians

SELECTION PROCESS:  The selection process will consist of the following:

  • Receipt of ERAS Application
  • Schedule Interview Date
  • National Matching Services participation

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM:
Family Medicine Residency & Traditional Internships - approved for 3 traditional rotating internship slots and 6 (OGME1) Family Practice Residency slots.

  • Annual Stipend (includes $1,000 per month housing allowance):
    Traditional Internships: $38,000.00
    Family Practice OGME1: $38,000.00
    Family Practice OGME2: $40,000.00
    Family Practice OGME3: $41,000.00
  • Benefits: Professional liability insurance; health insurance for intern/resident - dependent and family coverage available at additional cost; dental and other insurances at additional cost; meals provided to staff on duty; lab coats; 14 days off; reimbursement for boards; reimbursement for AOA & ACOFP membership; CPR, ACLS; Direct Deposit; online logging system, PDA provided; and $1,000 CME allowance.
