Preventive Medicine/Public Health
Nova Southeastern University in affiliation with the Palm Beach County Health Department has established this residency in Preventive Medicine/Public health in order to train residents in the sciences ascribed to public health and preventive medicine. The overarching concept is to develop competent, highly skilled and effective public health leaders. The Palm Beach County Health Department is a service organization responsible for supervision of public health programs for a growing county of over 1 million residents with both urban and rural communities. In addition to the traditional public health programs of communicable disease control, environmental health, maternal and child health, school health and health education, the health department is responsible for the primary care of the medically indigent population of the county. Over 1.1 million services are provided annually at six health centers located throughout the county with a support and professional staff of over 800. Both Nova Southeastern University and the Palm Beach county Health Department has a long history of developing new and innovative programs to meet community needs. Staff has an opportunity to participate in the planning and implementation of these programs.
