The Palm Beach Centre for Graduate Medical Education is comprised of three acute inpatient hospitals affiliated with HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. HCA is composed of locally managed facilities that include approximately 190 hospitals and 91 outpatient surgery centers in 23 states, England and Switzerland.
- Columbia Hospital: The hub of our campus is a 250-bed acute care facility (with an 88-bed psychiatric Pavilion) accredited by the AOA as well as the Joint Commission. The sponsor of all AOA-accredited internship and residency programs in the Palm Beach Centre for Graduate Medical Education, Columbia Hospital has been actively involved in osteopathic medical education since it was founded, in 1975. With an experienced, motivated, and energetic teaching staff, Columbia Hospital boasts excellent didactics in addition to strong clinical rotations with ample opportunity for “hands-on” experience. Many of Columbia Hospital’s attendings, as well as the Regional DME and Associate DME, are themselves graduates of our training program. Columbia Hospital is the base for Internal Medicine, IM/PEDS and Dermatology Residencies.
- Palms West Hospital: Palms West Hospital is a 175 bed acute care facility with a wide variety of services geared to excellence in medical education. A recent 47 million dollar expansion has significantly increased the number of beds available, increased the capacity of the Emergency Department and opened a brand new Pediatric Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Palms West Hospital is located in a younger population center of Palm Beach County, which is among one of the fastest growing communities in the country. Palms West boasts exemplary Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency, Pediatric Intensive Care, and Obstetrics/Gynecology services. Palms West is the base facility for our residencies in Family Practice, Pediatrics, IM/PEDS and Emergency Medicine.
- JFK Medical Center:A $76 million hospital expansion which has expanded JFK to a 424-bed facility. A new emergency department is triple the size of the previous facility. The new modern facility is home to 41 beds, including five trauma beds and eight fast track beds. JFK boasts excellent critical care services, and advanced neurosciences center (neurological disorders, brain and spinal surgery, pain management, sleep disorders and stroke) and a state-of-the-art Heart Institute (open heart surgery, invasive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation). JFK Medical Center is working in cooperation with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to begin new ACGME-accredited residency programs. These programs will offer didactic opportunities to osteopathic residents, as well.
Academic Partners
To enhance the quality of care rendered in our facilities, as well as the academic programs offered to our externs, interns and residents, The Palm Beach Centre for Graduate Medical Education has formed strategic alliances with some of the area and world’s finest healthcare organizations..
- NSUCOM/Consortium for Excellence in Medical Education (OPTI): High-tech compressed video equipment provides our programs with real-time access between Columbia and Palms West Hospitals, as well as between our hospitals and Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and the other hospitals within NSUCOM’s Consortium.
- Veterans Administration Medical Center: The West Palm Beach VA provides primary and secondary level health care to eligible veterans in a seven-county area along Florida's Treasure Coast. Comprehensive services include medical, surgical and psychiatric inpatient care and outpatient services in each specialty. In addition, extended care services offer community residential care, adult day health care, respite and hospice in addition to nursing home care.
