Excellence in Medical Education Award

Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM), is the 1997 recipient of the annual Paul R. Wright Excellence in Medical Education Award, the most prestigious honor given by the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). NSU-COM is one of the 19 member colleges of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).

The first osteopathic medical school in the U.S. to be selected for this honor, NSU-COM was presented the award on March 21, 1997 in Orlando, Florida at the 47th annual AMSA convention. NSU-COM joins the ranks of Harvard Medical School, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and Baylor College of Medicine in receiving this honor. According to Andrew J. Nowalk, Ph.D., AMSA President, the award recognizes NSU-COM's "exceptional integration of interdisciplinary education into the training of tomorrow's physicians."

AACOM President, Douglas L. Wood, D.O., Ph.D., commented that NSU-COM's success "is an outstanding achievement which will bring greater understanding of the scholastic excellence and well-rounded preparation offered by this country's osteopathic medical colleges."
